Washington - A women is suing the City of Tacoma and Pierce County for negligence, claiming they allowed a police officer access to two videotapes showing her being sexually abused as a child. A judge ordered the police department to destroy the tapes by 1994.

The tapes were found by investigators in the home of the police officer who has also been named in the suit. Tacoma officer Lee William Giles Jr. was later convicted of child-sex crimes. These sexual assaults were unrelated to those of the plaintiff.

The suit claims that the woman has suffered extreme phsychological and emotional injury as a result of learning that her tapes were not destroyed or secured. Law enforcement officials say the tapes were stored and locked in room of items that will be destroyed. However, Giles had a key to that room because he kept confidential files there.

Babies born to epilepsy parents who use the drug Topomax during pregnancy may face increased risks of birth defects, a new study has found. Topomax is a migraine and epilepsy prevention drug.

The study, published in the latest issue of the journal Neurology, concluded that taking the drug was associated with a birth defect resk within the range of risk seen in othe anti-epileptic drugs, researchers reported.

It was the incidence of birth defects when Topomax was taken in combination with other anti-epileptic drugs that drew attention to the findings.

The study was only done on pregnant epilepsy patients, but could be relevant for migraine patients since the drug is also used for treating migraines, a common condition that occurs frequently in women of childbearing age. Should the study findings be confirmed, they would suggest that Topamax may not be an appropriate migraine treatment for women who are considering pregnancy.

If your child may have suffered a birth defect due to a prescription drug you took, contact the Appleton Birth Defect lawyer of Habush, Habush, & Rottier S.C. at 800-472-9334 to discuss your case and legal options.

A former nuclear pharmacist man has been awarded $10 million in damages after suffering severe pain following a hospital procedure. Larry Schultz, the injured man, was awarded $5 million alone for his pain and suffering. in 1988, Schultz was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and has been receiving treatments for it ever since. In 2006, he went to St. Luke’s Medical Center to have a drug injected into his spine to relieve spasticity caused by the disease.

Both Baclofen and Reno-60 were injected. Court documents later revealed that Reno-60 is not meant to be used as an intrathecal injection. This means that it is not meant to be injected into the spine.

The negligence on the part of the medical staff lead to serious injuries for Schultz, causing severe spasticity, seizures, and neurological damage. Shultz was forced to use a wheelchair as a result of the painful injuries.

Daniel Rottier of Habush Habush & Rottier, S.C. represented the man throughout his terrible ordeal and was able to assist him in receiving the compensation that he deserved for his injuries.
